Internship 2027 Sensor Systems Engineer

What you'll do

• Lead sensor strategy and positioning decisions for new equipment types, from initial evaluation through field testing
• Evaluate how sensors perceive their environment, including gaps and obstructed areas
• Develop software to simulate sensor visibility, detection range, and spatial coverage
• Compare different sensor configurations against performance, expense, robustness, and installation feasibility
• Test mounting solutions and confirm coverage predictions using real equipment
• Coordinate with perception, hardware, and safety groups to meet downstream needs

What they're looking for

• Enrolled in BS, MS, or PhD program in mechanical, electrical, physics, mechatronics, robotics, or computer science
• Competent with 3D spatial reasoning, reference frames, and geometric transformations
• Able to write Python for data analysis and automation
• Comfortable reading and reasoning about CAD models and physical layouts
• Able to travel to job sites and conduct hands-on sensor testing
• Preferred: background in sensor behavior, ray tracing, rendering, coverage modeling, or autonomous vehicle systems
