2027 Corporate Summer Internship Program- Banking Services: Retail Loan Servicing

Overview:

Summer Interns complete a 10 week internship centered around professional development, career growth and building the necessary skills to succeed. Summer Interns participate in projects and department initiatives that accelerate career growth and play an important role in building the future of the Bank. As an Intern, you will gain exposure to other departments through guest speakers and industry leaders and a built-in network with peers as well as priority consideration for full time opportunities throughout the Bank.

Join M&T Bank's Operations team and gain hands-on experience supporting the customer experience behind the scenes. As an intern, you'll work with teams across the bank to research customer requests, review information for accuracy, support process improvements, and learn how banking operations help serve customers every day.

This internship offers exposure to a variety of business functions, including Online Banking, Customer Servicing, and Lending Operations, while helping you build skills in problem-solving, communication, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do

• Research and assist with resolving customer inquiries.
• Review and analyze information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Support data entry, reporting, and operational processes.
• Collaborate with teams across the bank to gather information and solve problems.
• Draft professional communications and customer responses.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to improve processes.
• Learn how risk, compliance, and operational controls support the banking industry.
• Assist with special projects and other team initiatives.

Potential Areas of Exposure

Online Banking Operations

• Support online banking enrollment and account maintenance processes.
• Review reports and help identify and resolve customer issues.
• Learn how digital banking services are managed and supported.

Customer Servicing

• Research customer questions and requests across various banking products.
• Help draft customer communications and responses.
• Partner with internal teams to gather information and support issue resolution.

Mortgage & Consumer Lending Operations

• Assist with research related to mortgage and consumer lending inquiries.
• Review documents and support customer servicing activities.
• Gain exposure to lending operations and customer communication processes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Complete duties and responsibilities of an entry-level professional nature specific to assigned area of the Bank.
• Ensure activities adhere to established internal policies and external regulations as applicable.
• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
• Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00 per hour. The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations. The pay rate specific to your location will fall within this range and is available from your recruiter.
