The District of Columbia Courts offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in court administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Court's mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This unpaid internship is for Fall/Winter 2026.
Duties
Assist with the age-appropriate activities that promote early childhood development and learning.
Assist the staff with maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for children while the parents/guardians attend to Court business.
Assist with facilitating creative play, story time, and interactive games to engage children.
Assist the staff with daily operations of the drop-in center, including setup and transition between activities.
Gain hands-on experience in a licensed setting. (This experience can be applied toward fieldwork for ECE/CDA credentialing requirements.)
The position is flexible to focus the duties to meet the interests and goals of the intern.
Qualifications
Enrolled or formally accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student at an accredited college or university. Students majoring in Child Development, Early Childhood Development, Social Work, or related fields of study are preferred The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Fairness, Integrity, Respect and Transparency.
Education

Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to intern in the United States.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
The selected candidate must complete a fingerprinting background check, a Child Protection Registry (CPR) check, and undergo a health clearance screening.
Enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student.
Must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week.
