What You'll Do
In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting software and data solutions work while gaining exposure to the responsibilities of a full-time engineering consultant. You'll work closely with software engineers, controls engineers, project teams, and client stakeholders to design, program, test, and deploy SCADA, database, analytics, and control system applications. This position plays an important role in helping clients improve manufacturing visibility and performance, giving you the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real industrial automation projects while strengthening your technical, problem-solving, and consulting skills.
Support capital projects and assist Software Engineers with automation, programming, and implementation activities
Assist with the development of software control algorithms, data file structures, terminal displays, and data transmission applications.
Support the programming of industrial applications using PLC languages, C#, Visual C++, scripting languages, and other appropriate development tools
Contribute to the development, implementation, debugging, testing, and maintenance of software for industrial automation and manufacturing systems
Assist with designing SCADA systems, databases, database interfaces, and related software components
Create data analytics, reporting, and scripting solutions that support manufacturing operations
Support programming and site start-up of integrated packaging lines and process systems
Contribute to system integration and automation projects for consumer products and other manufacturing industries
Collaborate with controls engineers, project teams, clients, and vendors to deliver coordinated technical solutions
Document software requirements, system configurations, testing results, and project deliverables
Build project management and team collaboration skills through hands-on client work
Build technical skills through office and on-site project work with client-facing delivery teams
Contribute to client and team success through clear communication, professional execution, and reliable project support
What You'll Bring
Qualifications
Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or an equivalent related ABET-certified program
Foundational knowledge of programming, debugging, data structures, databases, or software troubleshooting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
Ability to organize and execute multiple project responsibilities at the same time
Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, management, clients, and vendors
Willingness to travel for project requirements, including installation and start-up activities, client and company meetings, trainings, seminars, forums, and conventions
Preferred Qualifications
Junior or senior standing
Internship, part-time, or full-time experience related to engineering, consulting, or programming
Familiarity with industrial control software such as Wonderware, Rockwell, or Ignition, or with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, or .NET programming
Exposure to SCADA, MES, analytics, database, mobile, or virtualization technologies through coursework or projects
Coursework or project exposure to food and beverage, life science, industrial, or advanced technology manufacturing environments
