Software Developer I

Introduction to the team

A technology platform powered by data and machine learning helps us build secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

As a Software Development Intern, you will join a collaborative engineering team and contribute to meaningful work that supports Expedia Group’s global travel marketplace. You will learn from experienced engineers, build practical software-development skills, and gain exposure to the full lifecycle of delivering reliable technology.

In this role, you will

• Contribute to well-defined software features, enhancements, and bug fixes with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Write clear, maintainable code and automated tests using established team practices and patterns.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, team ceremonies, and demonstrations of your work.
• Collaborate with teammates and partners to clarify requirements, share progress, and incorporate feedback.
• Investigate issues, use debugging tools, and help improve the reliability, quality, and usability of software.
• Document what you learn and share knowledge through technical notes, walkthroughs, or presentations.
• Explore development tools, including artificial-intelligence-assisted tools, thoughtfully and responsibly while validating suggestions against requirements, security expectations, and team standards.

Minimum qualifications

• You are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; or you have equivalent practical experience.
• You have experience with at least one modern programming language through coursework, personal projects, open-source contributions, or previous work experience.
• You understand fundamental software-development concepts, including data structures, algorithms, version control, testing, and debugging.
• You are able to work collaboratively, ask clarifying questions, communicate clearly, and receive and apply feedback.
• You are curious, adaptable, and motivated to learn new technologies and engineering practices.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience building a project that includes multiple components, services, or user-facing functionality.
• Familiarity with application programming interfaces, databases, cloud platforms, or continuous integration and delivery.
• Experience using Git or a similar version-control system.
• Exposure to automated testing, observability, accessibility, security, or performance considerations.
• Interest in travel technology and in building products that serve millions of travelers and partners.
