Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently seeking a Finance Intern to join our PowerDrive System business unit team. The intern will support the Finance team with financial analysis, reporting, and process improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for a student with a good foundation in finance or accounting who is eager to leverage AI-driven tools, data analytics, and automation to improve financial insights, efficiency, and decision-making. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a global manufacturing environment, supporting activities such as month-end close, forecasting, dashboards, cost analysis, and ad-hoc management reporting, while applying AI tools to streamline and enhance finance processes.

### Key responsibilities

- Utilize AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT style tools, Power BI AI features) to: Automate data preparation and recurring analysis, generate insights and explanations for financial trends and Improve efficiency in reporting and documentation

- Support enhancement of Power BI dashboards, Excel models, and analytical templates.

- Identify opportunities for process automation or standardization using AI and digital tools

- Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

- Integrates data from multiple data sources into relevant reports

- Use SAP to prepare monthly intercompany AR confirmations and send to each reporting unit

- Reconcile GL balances in SAP and OneStream monthly

- Reconcile journal entries in journal entry tracker to entries posted in SAP

- Prepare monthly account reconciliations for prepaid assets, accrued liabilities, and intercompany receivable/payables

- Collaborate with cross functional teams (Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering) on data-driven initiatives

### What we're looking for

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, IF statements, PivotTables) and comfort working with large datasets to compare results and research variances.

- Strong quantitative aptitude and attention to detail, with an interest in checking data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment (with guidance and support).

- Proactive mindset and willingness to learn; able to identify improvement ideas and support small process or reporting enhancements under supervision.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills.

- Interest in AI-assisted analysis and automation (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) and willingness to learn prompt basics, evaluation, and documentation of AI-assisted workflows.

- Exposure to or interest in creating AI agents and automations (e.g., Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, or similar) to streamline recurring finance tasks is a plus.

- Understands the importance of data privacy and responsible AI use when working with financial information (e.g., using approved tools, protecting confidential data).

- Coursework or interest in data analytics, business intelligence, machine learning, or finance transformation is a plus.
