Role Overview
Astera Labs is seeking a Data Analytics Engineer Intern to support reporting, automation, and data pipeline initiatives across the business. This role will help turn business data into actionable insights, scalable datasets, and automated workflows that improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical mindset, curiosity about business systems and data flows, and hands-on experience or coursework in tools such as Excel, Power BI, SQL, and Azure-based data platforms. This person should be comfortable working across both analytics and engineering tasks, partnering with business stakeholders and technical team members to build practical, high-impact solutions.
A Workday at Astera Labs
In this role, you will work primarily with the Business Intelligence team to support reporting, analysis, and automation initiatives in a structured learning environment. Your day may include working with sample or curated datasets, building Excel-based models or trackers, developing Power BI dashboards, writing SQL queries, and assisting with data pipeline and workflow automation tasks. You may also support recurring reporting processes, help document business rules and reporting logic, investigate data quality patterns in non-production datasets, and contribute to lightweight Azure-based integrations and process improvements.
This is a hands-on internship where you will gain exposure to both business intelligence and data engineering work. You will learn how data moves across systems, how dashboards and reports are built for business users, and how automation can improve speed, accuracy, and scalability across core processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports to support business and operational insights
- Support data preparation activities, including data cleaning, transformation, and validation using Power Query and SQL
- Help connect and integrate data from multiple sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, and business systems, into Power BI
- Create and maintain basic DAX measures and calculations under guidance from senior analysts
- Assist with data modeling tasks, including building and validating relationships and tables used for reporting
- Write SQL queries in Azure SQL Database to support reporting, data validation, and business analysis
- Help create and maintain automated workflows in Power Automate for notifications, approvals, and recurring business processes
- Support lightweight integrations and automation using Azure Functions where applicable
- Perform data quality checks and help identify data inconsistencies or anomalies
- Support documentation of report definitions, data sources, data models, business logic, and workflow steps
- Learn and follow BI best practices related to data governance, security, and reporting standards
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with Power BI, Power Query, and DAX
- Experience using Excel for data analysis, such as PivotTables, formulas, charts, lookups, and basic dashboards
- Power Automate skills, such as flows, connectors, approvals, scheduled and event-based triggers, conditions, loops, integrations, and error handling
- Azure SQL Database skills, such as writing queries, working with tables and views, joins, aggregations, stored procedures, triggers, and query optimization
- Azure Data Factory skills, such as linked services, datasets, copy activities, pipeline development, triggers, parameterization, monitoring, and error handling
- Azure Functions skills, such as Function Apps, triggers, bindings, service integrations, logging, troubleshooting, and serverless design
- Familiarity with databases, data warehouses, or ETL concepts from classes, projects, or internships
- Comfortable working with structured and imperfect data, with the ability to identify inconsistencies, improve data quality, learn new tools quickly, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in building scalable, reliable data solutions that support better business decisions
Internship experience and compensation
This is a paid, hourly U.S. internship.
