Vizient Intern Program Overview

This program is designed to foster a beneficial relationship and provide growth opportunities for Vizient, our employees, and collegiate students. Since 2000, our summer intern program has provided college undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with practical experience that exposes them to multiple aspects of a career field and the healthcare industry. This full-time, paid intern program offers an opportunity to accelerate academic learning, apply classroom knowledge, and introduce students to a professional setting. Interns are assigned a supervisor to mentor/develop their business skills, as well as monitor their work experiences. Interns are integral members of the company’s team, setting goals, working toward deadlines, and actively participating in community service projects.

The program requires the intern to commit to 10 weeks of participation in all formal training, mentoring, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to interact with senior leaders.

  • Pay rate: $25 per hour.

About the team and role

Vizient’s Strategy Intelligence Team helps health system leaders understand where health care is headed, what it means for their organization, and what to do next. We combine forward-looking perspectives from our subject matter experts with powerful analytics to help members see the implications of what’s coming and make confident decisions. The insights we share with clients span big picture industry topics like the future outlook for finance & payment, ambulatory strategy, digital health & AI in addition to service line intelligence across clinical areas like Cardiovascular, Cancer, Neurosciences, Orthopedics and Pediatrics.

As a graduate intern, you will support projects that translate healthcare research and data into practical and actionable takeaways, which could include slide decks, white papers, case studies and strategic frameworks. Your work will include researching and synthesizing industry and clinical trends, analyzing data, and contributing to client-facing materials. You will have opportunities to gain exposure to our clients and members, as well as colleagues across Vizient, and learn about the issues health system leaders face as they plan for growth and navigate industry dynamics.

What You’ll Do

  • Support a defined project that addresses a current service-line strategy related question or theme and produces a client-ready deliverable.
  • Conduct industry, policy, market, and organizational research; identify relevant sources; analyze data, and summarize findings for use in publications, presentations, and strategic discussions.
  • Collaborate with service line experts and colleagues across intelligence, analytics, and account management to support development of deliverables and client-facing work.
  • Develop clear tables, charts, written summaries, and presentation slides that communicate findings to healthcare strategy leaders and other audiences.
  • Participate in team meetings, learning sessions, and selected client and internal discussions; track project milestones and incorporate feedback.

What You’ll Learn

  • Key trends and issues that matter to health system strategy and service line leaders and the industry more broadly; how demand, care delivery, and strategic priorities are evolving.
  • How Strategy Intelligence and its membership are using data sources such as the Impact of Change forecast, claims products, consumer surveys, clinical and performance data to inform strategic decisions and program planning.
  • Practical application of healthcare research, market and utilization analysis, forecasting concepts, and development of client-ready presentations and other intelligence.
  • How clinical and enterprise subject-matter experts, cross-Vizient colleagues, and account teams combine perspectives to support health system strategy and client priorities.
  • How to synthesize complex information, communicate a data-driven point of view, manage a scoped project, and tell a concise story for an executive audience.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in healthcare administration, public health, business administration, health policy, economics, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; experience organizing, analyzing, or presenting data is expected. PowerBI or DataBricks experience is preferred.
  • Coursework or experience in healthcare management/administration, biological/biomedical sciences, economics, or a related area
  • Ability to evaluate sources, synthesize information, identify meaningful findings, and communicate clearly in writing and in presentations.
