# Connect newgrad.ai to your agent

newgrad.ai is a job board for new graduates and students (internships and new-grad roles in every field, in the US and Canada). Its career agent, Gnu, is an MCP server your AI assistant can use to search the board, read postings, save roles, update the member's profile, review their resume, and pass questions or ideas to the newgrad.ai team.

- MCP server: https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp (Streamable HTTP)
- Sign-in: OAuth in the browser. There is no API key; never ask the user for their newgrad.ai password.
- Needs a newgrad.ai account. No account yet? Create a free one at https://newgrad.ai/sign-in?mode=signup (email code, Google or GitHub, no card), then connect.
- Every new account gets Pro free for 30 days, no card. After that the free account keeps the board, and Pro is $5/month. Once the month is over the account can still connect: a search returns its top match, the profile, plan and team tools work, and the other Pro tools answer with what Pro adds and the link to subscribe.

## For the assistant reading this

1. Find your own section below.
2. If you can add the server yourself (a tool call, a shell command, a config file), do it, then have the user approve the newgrad.ai sign-in that opens.
3. If you can't (ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Grok on the web), walk the user through the steps one at a time and wait for them to confirm each one.
4. Until the newgrad tools actually show up for you, don't search, save or review anything, and don't present web results as the newgrad.ai board. Say it isn't connected yet.
5. If the user's plan can't add connectors (the free ChatGPT plan, for one), say so plainly and send them to https://newgrad.ai/jobs, which works in any browser.
6. If the user has no newgrad.ai account, send them to https://newgrad.ai/sign-in?mode=signup first. Sign-up asks them to pick Free or Pro; both start with the month of Pro.

## Agents that add it from a message

### Muse
Muse has no settings screen for this; it builds the connector itself. Build a custom integration to newgrad.ai with the MCP server URL https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp. When asked how to authenticate, choose the browser (OAuth) sign-in, not an API key. Save it for future conversations.

### Grok Bot
Add this MCP server: https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp. Open the newgrad.ai sign-in for the user to approve; the Bot keeps the connection.

## Coding agents

### Claude Code
Run `claude mcp add --transport http newgrad https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp`. Then the user runs `/mcp`, picks **newgrad**, chooses **Authenticate**, and approves in the browser.

### Codex
Run `codex mcp add newgrad --url https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp`, then `codex mcp login newgrad` (opens the browser to approve). The tools appear in a new session; `codex mcp list` shows the server.

### Gemini CLI
Add `"newgrad": { "httpUrl": "https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp" }` under `mcpServers` in `~/.gemini/settings.json`, then run `/mcp auth newgrad` and approve.

### Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP clients
Add `"newgrad": { "url": "https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp" }` under `mcpServers` in `mcp.json` (Cursor: Settings → MCP). The client opens the newgrad.ai sign-in on first use.

### Any agent with a shell: the CLI
`npm install -g newgrad`, then `newgrad login` (opens the browser; on a remote machine use `newgrad login --device` and approve the code at https://newgrad.ai/device). No account yet: `newgrad signup` opens sign-up first. Then `newgrad --help`: `search` (with `--visa`, `--open`, `--class`, `--degree`, `--no-experience`), `job`, `save`, `saved`, `profile set`, `resume review`, `plan`, `upgrade`, `ask`, `feedback`. Add `--json` for machine-readable output.

## Chat apps: the user adds it in Settings

These can't add a connector from a chat. Walk the user through it.

### ChatGPT (web, paid plan)
1. Settings → Security and login → turn on **Developer mode**. The free plan doesn't have it.
2. Settings → Plugins → create an app: name **newgrad**, server URL https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp, authentication **OAuth**.
3. Sign in to newgrad.ai when asked and approve.
4. In a chat, turn **newgrad** on from the Developer mode tool.
Menu names move; if one isn't where described, look for "Developer mode" and "Connectors" or "Apps".

### Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
1. Settings → Connectors → **Add custom connector**.
2. Name **newgrad**, URL https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp, **Connect**.
3. Sign in to newgrad.ai and approve.

### Grok (grok.com)
1. Open grok.com/connectors → **New Connector** → **Custom**.
2. Name **newgrad**, URL https://newgrad.ai/api/mcp, **Add**.
3. Sign in to newgrad.ai and approve.

## Once connected

Read `get_profile` first (it includes the member's plan), then search. Only cite postings the tools return, linked by their `url`.

- `search_jobs` (Pro; free plan: the top match per search, and how many more matched): search the board by meaning (`query`) or title (`keyword`), with filters including Jev's visa, class, degree and experience readings.
- `get_job`: one posting: the text, our summary and the apply link (Jev's analysis with Pro).
- `save_job` (Pro): save a role.
- `unsave_job` (Pro): remove a saved role.
- `list_saved_jobs` (Pro): the saved roles.
- `list_resumes` (Pro): the member's resumes and their last score.
- `get_resume` (Pro): one resume and its last review.
- `review_resume` (Pro): a 0–100 score from six weighted factors, plus a four-reviewer critique quoting the lines to change.
- `get_profile`: the member's profile (target role, location, skills) and plan.
- `update_profile`: change the profile.
- `get_plan`: the member's plan, what Pro adds, and the link to subscribe.
- `ask_team`: a question for the newgrad.ai team, answered by email.
- `send_feedback`: feedback (what worked, what broke) or an idea, for the team.

## Plans

Free account:
- Everything in Pro for the first 30 days, no card; then it keeps the rest of this list
- The whole board, keyword search and the location, type, remote, salary and date filters
- Saved roles and a profile
- The map of roles by metro
- Gnu over MCP, the CLI and the API, in preview: each search shows its top match; profile, plan, questions and feedback to the team

Pro:
- Gnu in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client, in the terminal (CLI) and over the REST API
- AI search: find roles by meaning, in your own words
- Jev's analysis of every posting (visa sponsorship, graduating class, degree, citizenship or clearance, experience) as filters and tags
- Daily email alerts for new roles that match a saved search
- Resume review by four reviewers, and a draft tailored to a posting
- First drafts of an application's open questions, from your resume, in the Chrome extension

When `search_jobs` comes back with a `preview` (one match, and how many more there were) or another Pro tool answers that the account is on the free plan, show what you got and tell the member once what Pro would add for what they asked, with the `subscribeUrl` (https://newgrad.ai/pricing?welcome=pro). They review the renewal terms and pay on that page; you can't subscribe for them.

## Feedback

When the member says something about newgrad.ai itself (a bug, a missing role or company, something they liked, something they wish it did), offer to pass it on with `send_feedback`, or `ask_team` for a question. Send it only with their go-ahead, in their words; a person reads every one. Without an account, email admin@newgrad.ai.
